Medical Tourism in Cairo: International Patient Guide
A Clear, Clinically Governed Pathway for Overseas Surgery
Travelling to Egypt for plastic surgery or post-bariatric body contouring offers access to highly skilled surgical care within modern hospital facilities. At our practice, medical tourism is managed as a rigorous, step-by-step clinical pathway focused entirely on your safety and aesthetic outcome.
The 10-Stage International Patient Journey:
Stage 1: Initial Enquiry & Information Gathering
You submit your enquiry through our consultation form. Our dedicated international coordinator clarifies your availability and explains the required clinical photographs.
Stage 2: Direct Virtual Consultation
You meet directly with Dr Ahmed AbdelAlem via secure video call to evaluate expectations, examine anatomical considerations, and review technique options.
Stage 3: Comprehensive Health & Risk Screening
We evaluate BMI, smoking status, bariatric surgical history, and nutritional status. Specialist medical clearances must be established prior to travel.
Stage 4: Individualised Treatment Plan & Written Quotation
You receive an itemised proposal detailing planned surgical procedures, required stay duration in Cairo, and surgical inclusions.
Stage 5: Coordinated Travel Scheduling
Once confirmed, you coordinate flight and accommodation bookings with team guidance on hotel proximity to our clinics and hospital.
Stage 6: Arrival & In-Person Pre-Operative Assessment
You arrive in Cairo at least 24 to 48 hours prior to surgery for physical examination, surgical markings, and routine hospital investigations.
Stage 7: Inpatient Admission & Surgery
Surgery is performed at an accredited facility, such as La Vida Hospital in New Cairo, with consultant oversight and nursing care.
Stage 8: Local Cairo Recovery & Outpatient Reviews
You recover at your chosen hotel or residence, attending scheduled clinic reviews for dressing changes, wound care, and garment adjustments.
Stage 9: Fit-to-Fly Evaluation
Prior to departure, Dr Ahmed performs a comprehensive clinical assessment to verify wound stability. Formal fit-to-fly clearance is issued.
Stage 10: Remote Continuity of Care
Continuity is maintained through scheduled remote follow-ups at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months post-surgery.
Essential Logistics to Clarify Before Booking:
- Duration of Stay: Minor/moderate contouring requires 7–10 days; major post-bariatric lifts require 10–14 days before international flights are clinically sanctioned.
- Travel Companion: Strongly advised for the first 5 to 7 days post-surgery after major body contouring.
- Medical Travel Insurance: Patients must acquire specialist elective medical travel policies covering elective surgery abroad.
- Early Recovery: Rest, gentle mobilization to prevent DVT, and wound hygiene are paramount. Sightseeing is strictly discouraged during early recovery.
